Why Website Prices Went Up Between 2024 and 2026
Four things moved our prices. Only one of them is inflation.
1. Annual increases of about 10%
We raise prices by roughly 10% a year to keep pace with costs. Compounded over two years, that accounts for about 21%. Every package except e-commerce rose by more than that, and the difference is explained by the next three reasons.
2. More is included in every package
Since 2024, we added on-page SEO, a WhatsApp chat button and social media integration to our website packages, using plug-and-play plugins we developed for the job. A client who paid R3,990 for a small business website in 2024 got less than a client paying R5,590 today.
These are the items other agencies often quote as extras. Our guide to what web designers charge in South Africa covers what to look for on a quote.
3. Better websites that perform faster
With more years and more builds behind us, we produce better websites that load and perform faster than what we delivered in 2024. That experience has a value, and our pricing now reflects it.
4. A shift toward Pretoria and Johannesburg
We haven’t left East London, but we depend on it less. More of our work now comes from Pretoria and Johannesburg through our Centurion office, and that market reads price differently.
“While East London people are fine with those prices, Johannesburg and Pretoria people question it.”
Juan Preuyt, founder of New Perspective Design
In Gauteng, a price that looks too low raises doubt about the quality of the work. Moving our prices up brought them in line with what that market expects from a professional agency.
Why the Smallest Packages Rose the Most
The starter website rose 52%. The online store rose 17%. The gap comes down to arithmetic.
SEO setup, a WhatsApp button and social media integration take roughly the same effort on a three-page website as on a store. Added to a R2,290 package, that work is a large share of the price. Added to a R6,500 store, it is a small one.
So the cheapest websites in 2024 were the ones missing the most, relative to their price. In 2026, the entry-level packages carry the same basics as the larger ones.
What 2026 Website Prices Mean When You Compare Quotes
- Compare what is included, not just the total. A cheaper quote that leaves out SEO, WhatsApp or social media integration will cost more once you add them.
- Be wary of old price lists. A 2024 price quoted in 2026 has either absorbed two years of rising costs or left something out.
- Expect prices to keep moving. At about 10% a year, a quote you receive today will not hold indefinitely, so check how long it is valid.
- Look at the typical spend, not only the starting price. Our median accepted website quote in mid-2026 was R9,980. See the average cost of a website in South Africa for the full breakdown.
