How Much Do Web Designers Charge in South Africa? Our Full Rate Card [2026]
The rates in this article come from New Perspective Design’s paid invoices from November 2025 to August 2026 and our 2026 package prices. Where we describe other designers’ quotes, it is from quotes clients have shown us. We don’t publish other agencies’ figures.
How Much Do Web Designers Charge in South Africa? The Short Answer
Web designers in South Africa charge in three ways: a fixed package price for the website, a set price per extra item, and an hourly rate for changes. At New Perspective Design, websites start at R1,990 for a landing page and R5,590 for a five-page small business website. Extra page designs cost R450 each, and work outside a package is billed at R450 an hour .
The headline price only tells you so much. The quotes clients show us from other designers are generally higher than ours, and they often leave out small but important items: basic SEO, image editing, Google Search Console submission and WhatsApp buttons.
- Per package. The website build, priced by type and page count.
- Per item. Extra pages, copywriting, branding and add-ons like blogs or legal pages.
- Per hour. Changes and work outside the agreed scope.
- Per month. Hosting, SEO and Google Ads management once the website is live.
What We Charge for a Website
The website itself is priced as a once-off package. Page count sets the tier, and functionality such as a checkout or booking system decides the final figure.
| Website package | Pages | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Landing page website | 1 | R1,990 |
| Starter website | 1 to 3 | R3,490 |
| Small business website | 5 to 9 | R5,590 |
| Lead generation website | 9 to 12 | R8,590 |
| Online store | Up to 10, plus product pages | From R7,580 |
Every package includes on-page SEO, image editing, WhatsApp chat, a contact form, Google Maps, and Google Business Profile, Analytics and Search Console integration. For what clients end up paying in each tier, see how much a website costs in South Africa , based on our 2024 to 2026 projects.

Anything outside the package is priced as its own line. These are the rates as they appeared on our invoices. What Web Designers Charge Every Month
Once a website is live, the running costs are monthly. On our invoices they looked like this:
- Website hosting : R199 a month for 15 GB, or R320 a month for 50 GB with Redis caching. Both include domain registration, SSL, email and one update request or 30 minutes of support each month.
- SEO : R1,899 a month for optimisation across two search entities, backlink building and monthly reports.
- Google Ads management: R1,750 a month, with ad spend set by the client and paid to Google separately.
The support time inside hosting matters. Small updates are covered each month instead of billed at the hourly rate.
What Other Web Designers Often Charge Extra For
When clients show us quotes from other designers, the totals are generally higher than ours. The bigger surprise is what they leave out. Four small items come up again and again.
Basic SEO
On-page SEO, meaning page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure and image alt text, is often missing from the quote entirely. Without it, a new website launches with nothing telling Google what each page is about.
Image editing
“Usually guys just stick the images they get onto the page. We edit them to optimise them for the web, and if an image looks a bit rough, we make it look nice and look branded.”
Juan Preuyt, Founder, New Perspective Design
Unedited images load slowly and look inconsistent. Our packages include editing for a set number of images, 15 on a six-page website and 25 on a 14-page website.
Google Search Console submission
Some designers charge separately to connect the website to Google Search Console and submit its sitemap. It is a short task, and it is how Google learns the website exists. We include it in every package.
WhatsApp buttons
For many South African businesses, WhatsApp is the main enquiry channel. Some designers price the button as an add-on. Ours is standard.
How to Compare What Web Designers Charge
Compare quotes line by line, not by the total. A higher quote can still leave out items that a lower one includes. Ask each designer whether their price covers:
- On-page SEO, not just an “SEO-friendly” structure
- Image editing, and for how many images
- Google Search Console setup and sitemap submission
- WhatsApp chat and a contact form
- Support time after launch, and the hourly rate beyond it
Our website quote checklist adds the ownership and contract questions to ask before paying a deposit.

What Web Designers Charge in South Africa: Frequently Asked Questions
Do web designers in South Africa charge by the hour?
Most price the website as a fixed package and use an hourly rate for changes outside the agreed scope. At New Perspective Design, out-of-package work is R450 an hour and an extra page design costs R450.
How much does a web designer charge for small changes after launch?
With us, hosting includes one update request or 30 minutes of support every month, so most small changes cost nothing extra. Larger changes are billed at R450 an hour.
How much does a logo cost with a website?
On our invoices, a logo cost R1,150 with two concepts and three rounds of revisions. A letterhead and an email signature cost R350 each, which suits a new business setting up its brand and website together.
Why do some web design quotes cost more but include less?
Some designers price basic items separately, such as on-page SEO, image editing, Google Search Console submission and WhatsApp buttons. A quote can look complete and still leave these out, so compare quotes line by line rather than by total.
